Mobile-Based Library Automation in Resource-Constrained Academic Libraries: A Thematic Review of QR-Enabled Circulation, Integrated Systems, Usability and Implementation Barriers
Author(s): Harsha Pilli
Abstract: Small academic libraries often cannot sustain conventional integrated library management systems because of limits on funding, infrastructure, technical skill and maintenance capacity. Smartphone ownership is growing, which makes mobile systems a plausible alternative. This thematic review examines the published literature on mobile library services, QR-enabled identification and circulation, usability, operational outcomes and implementation barriers. The objectives of the review are to synthesise the published evidence on these themes, to distinguish what has been measured from what has been described and to propose a framework for empirical study.
Keywords - mobile library systems; QR codes; library automation; integrated library management; usability; academic libraries.
