From Librarian to Cybrarian 4.0: Emerging Competencies and Digital Transformation of Libraries in India - A Review

Author(s):  Dr. Neha Joshi

Abstract: The rapid advancement of digital technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and networked information systems has transformed the traditional role of librarians into technologically empowered “Cybrarians.” The concept of cybrarianship has evolved significantly from basic digital librarianship to an integrated knowledge management ecosystem driven by AI, data analytics, digital repositories, and user-centered virtual services. This review paper examines the evolution of librarianship into Cybrarian 4.0 within the Indian context, focusing on emerging competencies, technological transformations, national digital initiatives, and challenges faced by library professionals.
